Visual notes
- grounded 1925 Hollywood studio realism with a sharp distinction between movie-image language and private-life color reality
- movie footage uses silent-era black-and-white melodrama grammar: high contrast, expressive blocking, controlled studio shadows, restrained camera motion, and intertitle-era clarity
- private-life and behind-the-scenes footage uses full color: warm incandescent dressing-room light, dusty studio paint, muted textiles, powder, rouge, cloche hats, bobbed hair, varnished furniture, and bungalow-court greenery
- studio sets should look built: painted flats, practical prop furniture, visible stage boundaries, chalk marks, lamp stands, muslin, matte-painted windows, and crafted illusions rather than modern location realism
