## At a glance

- Island Hop trades a continuous coast for scattered land. The Island Needle waits above the gaps, inviting a hurried chase. The notebook rewards watching the available space; the history note concerns intelligence before a carrier battle.

- Real campaign context · fictional sortie and illustrative map, not a geographic reconstruction.

## Dated changes

- 2026-10-30: Added from the named source to the Field Guide.

## Open questions

- Did intelligence alone decide Midway? Intelligence helped American commanders position their force. Reconnaissance, command decisions and what aircrews and sailors actually did still shaped the battle.
