# Shackled Prison changelog

## 1.2.0 · October 29, 2026

Rosie, rebuilt from her character sheets as an anime figure.

- A "secretly flat" face: her head is round, but a lattice presses the front of the face shallow, and the normals are
copied from a round guide head so the shading still falls like a sphere. The face is painted onto that flat front:
big dark-blue eyes with a heavy lash, hard highlights, freckles, blush and a small wry smile.
- A big, messy navy bob to the jaw with the tips flicking out, pink streaks underneath, bangs to the brows and the
  pixel-heart clip.
- The sheets' proportions, checked side by side against the turnaround: a bigger head, a black high collar instead of
a bare neck, fuller legs, smaller hands, a short pleated skirt under an oversized jacket.
- The jacket from the sheets: open over the black top, Rosie-blue cuffs, light-blue and teal panels, a print of blue
blobs and coral pixel hearts, the R patch, and ROSIE over a pixel heart on the back. Big black-and-white headphones
with hearts, the radio on a crossbody strap, chunky sneakers.
- Her face was measured against the sheet's front and side heads: round eyes about one eye-width apart, a jaw in
straight lines to a small chin, a small nose, her head set low so her chin nearly meets the black zip-up collar, and
her hair kept behind her cheeks so her profile shows. The hood lies down over her shoulders as on the sheet.
- Her head is real geometry now, measured off the sheet's front and side heads on a grid: a broad, shallow face with
a nose, eye sockets, brow, cheekbones, lips, chin and a jaw that runs forward from under the ear. A dense twin bakes
a normal map and soft skin lighting (subsurface scattering, so the shadows stay warm) into her face texture.
- Reworked from a full review against the sheets: hair rebuilt from a few big masses with an asymmetric swept bang,
curls at the jaw and nape and narrow pink streaks; a clean heart clip; stronger, slightly angled eyelids and oval
irises; a nose, lips and chin that read in profile and a narrower jaw; a folded hood; the ROSIE backpack from the
gear panel (ROSIE over a pixel heart on its front pocket); a pleated skirt with a belt and buckle; chunky high-top
sneakers; headphones with a silver ring, blue centre and heart; a dark R patch. Her colours glow a little at night so
  her face stays readable.
- The cast is now cel shaded (three tones and a soft rim of light) with an ink outline; Rosie's face has its own,
  almost shadowless ramp.
- New portraits for her lines and the cast list.

- The Gatehouse approach is dressed: boulders round the cliff top (which now also stop you walking off it by accident),
a flagstone path to the bridge, three crooked headstones with pumpkins on them, a dead tree, broken rock hanging off
the cliff edges, and kerbstones and a worn runner of flags down the bridge.
- The cliff face behind the start stands further back, so the opening camera is never inside it.

A gameplay and tuning pass, measured with a new play-bot (`tools/playbot.mjs`) that plays the whole game through the
player's own controls. Details and numbers in DESIGN.md, "Tuning".

- The ramp to the second gate shackle now runs up along the gate wall and can actually be reached.
- Lifts no longer leave without you when the cage sits flush with the floor; the east lift opens toward the walkway.
- Drones are fairer: longer to be caught, quicker to forget, slower rounds, longer pauses; panels dazzle for 8 s.
- The torch: ordinary shackles go in one pull, the Void's need one breather.
- The Void breathes every 12 s with a 2.6 s warning, and getting caught in the open now costs most of the cut.
- Rosie walks real paths instead of straight lines.
- The shackles on each floor light up when you arrive and after 30 s without a cut; prompts say why you can't cut yet.

## 1.0.0 · October 29, 2026

First playable build.

- Four floors: the Gatehouse, the Cell Block, the Foundry and the Void, built in Blender by script from one layout
  file, with Cycles-baked light.
- Seven from FIELDWORK, rebuilt with a cutting torch and new brace, cut and stow clips.
- Rosie, the Inspector, the Astronomer and the hooded statues, modelled on Replacement's humanoid rig and baked
  high-poly to low-poly.
- Twelve shackles to cut, with a heat meter on the torch.
- Drones with searchlights, statues that move when you look away, pendulum weights, a counterweight puzzle, a falling
  walkway, and the Void's breath.
- 71 lines of dialogue, subtitled; voices can be added a line at a time with `tools/voices.py`.
- 67 sound effects, inspected and levelled by role, as AAC.
- An ordered, two-phase loader: the Gatehouse first, the floors below streamed while you play.
- Keyboard and mouse, gamepad and touch.
