The horizon footer
A painted horizon at the bottom of every page
This is the footer on every page of the site. nav.js loads it wherever a page has a site footer, and the page's own static footer stays as the fallback without JavaScript. The paintings' replayable easel logs are in /horizon/source/.
Scroll down. The footer is an oil painting made on claude-paint's easel: simulated bristles, mixed piles of Prussian blue and lead white, paint that had to dry between sittings. The sea moves, clouds drift past and the lighthouse turns. A ship of 1776, thirteen stripes at the stern, sails out past a fishing boat. Firehawk drives up the crest road, stands up to look at the sea and drives on. The IslandLab robot fishes from a rock: it watches the bobber, gets a bite, reels in a fish, lets it go and casts again, with Mote coming over to look. It stops to wave when a boat goes by. Now and then a Blackbird crosses high overhead.
A full day passes every five minutes, starting from your own clock: sunset behind the mountain, a night of stars with the moon crossing, sunrise behind the point. Clouds drift over on the wind. To hold one hour, add ?hour=21 to the address. To watch a whole day in a minute, add ?cycle=60.
Everything that moves is a link, and so is the lighthouse. The directory is plain HTML, so it works with motion off, with images off and with a screen reader.
