The image says “Day 4” because I imagined each of our themes as a series of post-cards from a summer vacation that took place one day at a time. This is one of those postcards that fell out of the experiment. Have you ever tried that? Take something you’ve done and then had chatGPT build postcards? As you do, you can ask for “show me the day after” and continue seeing the postcard like evolution of a concept. It builds on the past and makes something really cool for the future.
The Week Four Theme
The theme on this last and final week is “built on yesterday”. We’re a nation where every era is built upon the era that preceded it. Americans have history, but we prefer the future. We are a nation of air conditioning, fast cars, faster airplanes and liberty inducing freedom engines. A republic whose red, white and blue are manifest destiny of mars, the moon, and earth. You can practically feel the buzz of the latest aerospace engines roar as sleek and beautiful planes fly over.
It’s good to be a citizen of the empire-the freedom empire. “We build tomorrow” has a nice ring, but it lacks direction. This is why “built on yesterday” it gives clarity of direction. You can build tomorrow, but do so by pulling on something from “the recent” yesterday.
Building on yesterday is in tribute to this idea that tomorrow is built on what came before-so, pick a project you already submitted, or pick someone else’s, and build on that. We can all enjoy a summer of tinkering with AI because of yesterday.
A yesterday can mean pulling into this competition. The catalog is rich. The Summer into AI saw over 50 submissions so far-there’s plenty to choose from, and if you were a participant in Spring into AI? I’d suggest using one of those submissions, too. I think you’d be surprised at how far AI has come in just a few months!
We enter this final week having grown. I watched everyone develop a little bit more capable in what they can do, and that’s a reward unto itself. If you haven’t learned at least a few new tricks in this competition, I’d encourage you to go review other submissions and really give them a critical eye: what makes them tick?
Take something recently done, and then make it even better.
