Lantern Run field guide

Horses

Six horses, one rig, eight gaits.

The stable

All six horses are in the stable from the start, so pick the one that suits the road. Every finish earns your horse experience. A horse levels up to 10, and each level adds a little speed, jump and cool. The 8-bit original's horses are all here, rebuilt as a rigged and animated 3D horse that walks, gallops, jumps, lands, skids, rears and falls.

Balanced

Brown Beauty

  • Speed ●●●○○
  • Accel ●●●○○
  • Jump ●●●○○
  • Cool ●●●○○
  • Control ●●●○○

Deacon John Larkin lent Revere a horse in Charlestown. Later writers called her Brown Beauty. She was taken by the British patrol the same night, and Revere never saw her again. In the game she is the horse you start with, and she is good at everything.

Fast

Nelson

  • Speed ●●●●●
  • Accel ●●●○○
  • Jump ●●○○○
  • Cool ●●●○○
  • Control ●●○○○

George Washington's chestnut, with a white face and white legs. Washington rode him through much of the war, and Nelson lived to old age at Mount Vernon. Highest top speed in the stable, but he does not love walls.

Jumper

Old Glory

  • Speed ●●○○○
  • Accel ●●○○○
  • Jump ●●●●●
  • Cool ●●●●○
  • Control ●●●●○

A grey jumper named after the flag. Old Glory clears a stone wall like it is not there. Slow on the flat, unbeatable over walls and gaps.

Stamina

Liberty

  • Speed ●●●○○
  • Accel ●●○○○
  • Jump ●●●○○
  • Cool ●●●●●
  • Control ●●●○○

A palomino with a cream mane who can run turbo longer than any horse in the stable.

Starts

Minuteman

  • Speed ●●●○○
  • Accel ●●●●●
  • Jump ●●●○○
  • Cool ●●○○○
  • Control ●●●○○

Ready in a minute, like the militia he is named for. Nobody starts faster, and nobody gets back up to speed after a stumble sooner.

Forgiving

Yankee Doodle

  • Speed ●●●○○
  • Accel ●●●●○
  • Jump ●●●○○
  • Cool ●●●●○
  • Control ●●●●○

A dapple grey who forgives a bad landing. The best horse for learning the road.

The saddler

Liberty coins buy upgrades that apply to every horse: speed, heat and health, five levels each. They also buy looks (a Patriot blanket, a Midnight coat, a Moonbeam glow and a Golden saddle) and turbo trails. Each trail is one of the six Prism Forge elements: Ember Puff is fire, Blue Spark is lightning, Liberty Flare is poison green, Delaware Frost is ice, Parade Pop is the dark element in pink, and Solar Burst is holy light. Your trail also sets the color of your Lantern Burst.

If you played the 8-bit RevereBike in the same browser, the stable remembers. Half your old horse experience and up to 400 of your old coins carry over the first time you open Lantern Run.
